Profile of Alan

  • Name: Alan
  • Nationality: Mexico
  • Country of Residence: Mexico
  • Town: Linares
  • E-Mail: not public
  • Profession: student
  • Educational Background:
Actually I´m studing Engineer in Natural Resources Management with a specialization in Wildlife Management. For one year I studied in the Forestry Faculty in Göttingen, Germany, as part of an academic interchange. I had studied guitar and painting too.
  • Where I live and how I view my environment:
Next to my town there is a great chain of mountains with an incredible biodiversity, plenty of colours, shapes and flavors, where can be found a lot of species, such as black bear, jaguar, mountain lion, rattlesnakes and an endemic parrot. The "Cumbres de Monterrey" National Park protects part of these mountains as well as its biodiversity. Moreover, there is another Natural Protected wetland next to my town where can be found several endemic fishes. Despite this amazing biodiversity the human pressures had been threatening most of the ecosystems found in the region, threatening at the same time several species that can be found just in this part of the world. Even though, there are more people concerned about the environment and are working to protect our unique biodiversity.
  • Biodiversity means to me personally:
For me biodiversity is the amazing and varied way how life had been developing a long the Earth´s existence. Biodiversity is the outcome of millions of years of natural selection, resulting in an incredible diversity of colours and shapes. It is the great variety of life´s forms, from the viruses to the California Redwood.
  • My Symbol of biodiversity:
The Maroon-Fronted Parrot (Rhynchopsitta terrisi), a endemic parrot of the mountains of the Northeast of Mexico, because this colorful, sociable and noisy bird represent to me the beauty of nature, but at the same time the fragility of life. This unique bird depends completely on the conservation of the forest and the permanence of undisturbed places to breed.
  • My motivation for participating:
meeting youth people from all over the world whom are concerned about conserving nature. Create new friendships and new world wide networks. Learn about other cultures and other points of view.
  • How did I show I am ready to "Go 4 BioDiv":
Since the moment I knew I was accepted, I began to look for all the information related with the biodiversity of my region and country. Also I have been looking for all the information and items which could represent my culture and the relation that exist between it and our biodiversity. To date I have worked and participated in several projects related with endemic and threatened species in my country, from strange endemic rattlesnakes to endemic conifers. The last project in which I have been participating is the Mexican Wolf Reintroduction project, which aims to achieve the rural development joint to the reintroduction of the Mexican Wolf in the northeast Mexico.
  • My message to other participants:
Hy friends!!, I´m eager to meet you and to share all of our experiences and knowledge in conserving nature. I´m completely open to new ideas and opinions and ready to build with you a new society which concerns about nature and men.
