  • Where I live and how I view my environment:
I spend most of time in Tam Dao National Park, one of the most diverse park in Vietnam in terms of plants and animals. The Project's Headquarter where I'm working is within the Park and my flat is under a pine forest. Day by day I enjoy fresh air and peaceful environment. In the morning, I can hear voice of birds, watch foggy mountains, and walk along the beautiful and peaceful path to the valley.
  • Biodiversity means to me personally:
With chances of working in nature, discovering biodiversity of Tam Dao by myself and studying this subject through project documents and other related materials collected from many sources, I learnt that biodiversity is the variation of life forms within a given ecosystem. However, personally I think biodiversity should include the diversity within a species and among species, and comparative diversity among ecosystems.
  • My Symbol of biodiversity:
    Birds
  • My motivation for participating:
An opportunity to discover nature in another habitat in Bavarian National Park to see how its biodiversity is, to what extent it can be different from National Parks in Vietnam, particularly Tam Dao National Park and how it is conserved in different parts of the world. Chance to join a global network of youth to act on biodiversity conservation and share our cultural differences.
  • How did I show I am ready to "Go 4 BioDiv":
Actually, I have not much experience in the international biodiversity because it is only six months since I first worked in a National Park and work on such a controversial and most concerned issue in the world. However, in Tam Dao National Park, also my office and weekly accommodation, I spent much time on Environmental Education and Tourism activities in which we develop interactive tools for visitors to see the biodiversity of Tam Dao National Park. Joining this task, I got chances to learn more about Tam Dao Forests and wildlife with a variety of plants and animals. They are pine, bamboo, camellia, etc. They are also birds, butterflies, insects, and so on. And as I may know, Tam Dao forest is one of the most diverse ecosystems in Vietnam and the world with plants and insects that attracts many local and international experts to come for investigation and study. Moreover, I was assigned to work with some other project staff to do editing of the Bio-Factsheet of Tam Dao National Park named “A Summary of Biodiversity Surveys and Key Conservation Issues at Tam Dao National Park” which is now published for wider use of specialized agents. This document displays the biodiversity of Tam Dao ecosystems where people can see different types of vegetation and habitats resided by a diversity of butterflies, amphibians and reptiles, mammals and birds. Fortunately, besides working on papers about this interesting and favorite topic, I also had chances to take parts in some activities organized by the Project in the field of environment in general and biodiversity in private. We have completed a Forest School with a visit center where visitors obtain information about landscape, species biodiversity and eco-tourism types to help them experience nature in Tam Dao National Park. To serve this function, we conducted info-panels and info-boxes where information and images about Tam Dao flora and fauna are displayed to visitors who come to study and enjoy Tam Dao nature. We also involve panels of environmental impacts which can seriously influence on Tam Dao biodiversity, and then the global biodiversity. Moreover, I was also involved in Action Day for Environment of Tam Dao on November 11, 2007 in which we planted trees, did forest sanitation, and played games on environmental education. Such activities help to educate people about forest and nature protection which contributes to protect the species habitats and then the forest integrity. These activities engage my curiosity and expectation of discovering more landscapes and ecosystems to see the broader biodiversity situations and conservation in the world.
  • My message to other participants:
Biodiversity in Vietnam, also in the world is badly threatened of degradation and destruction due to environmental impacts caused by new developments which are expected by the Government to move its people to a better life. The youth from all over the world should be together to act for biodiversity conservation to protect our future life.
