Educational Background: BSc in Human Ecology, Human Settlements Planning major. cum laude (2000-2004)
MSc in Environmental Governance (2007-present)
Where I live and how I view my environment: I am from the Philippines and now studying in Freiburg in Southwest Germany, where the (Schwarzwald) Black Forest is found. When I arrived in Freiburg, I admired the ability of its citizens and authorities to maintain the viable condition of the forest.
I learned that there are already exotic species introduced in the Schwarzwald, and this has posed some biodiversity issues.
Biodiversity means to me personally: Common but differentiated responsibilities
My Symbol of biodiversity: My class in my MS programme! We are 24 students coming from 19 different countries!
My motivation for participating: Establish network with the youth from different parts of the world, which share my vision to address, and hopefully to solve, environmental issues of today and the future.
How did I show I am ready to "Go 4 BioDiv": My solid educational and professional background in analyzing human-environment interactions and sustainable development, respectively, continue to contribute in my understanding of the nuances of local and global environment systems.
While pursuing my bachelor’s degree, I showed my interest on the environment through membership as well as leadership in a college-based organization espousing environmental consciousness, organization and implementation of small action projects, and involvement in volunteer opportunities and contests
I gained exposure in the different environment sectors in my previous job at the National Economic and Development Authority of the Philippine government, which is also the secretariat of the Philippine Council for Sustainable Development. My previous professional experience provided skills in recognizing, addressing and analyzing sustainable development issues in the country.
My message to other participants: I look forward to meet you, and share our experiences, views, and visions on biodiversity.
