  • Where I live and how I view my environment:
I was born in Moers, a small city located in the Ruhr valley. This region is the economical center of Germany and it is characterized by a high population density, traffic, and noise. In the past the environment suffered because of these industrial activities and many species disappeared. The use of environmental technology and the disappearance of some branches of industry made it possible for some species to return. Some years ago the rhiver Rhine was devoid of fish. Now it hosts a population of fish big enough to sustain the cormorant, a bird species that was extinct in Germany some years ago. The environment where I live is civilized. In the sense that it is not wild and dangerous but rather that it is dominated by industry. There are some beautiful places though. The Rheinaue wetlands for instance host many species and there are many passerine birds which stay in the Ruhr valley for some time.
