Global environmental governance: biodiversity-related conventions

Contents: Brief overview of major conventions relevant to biodiversity and livelihood in the coastal marine realm, viz, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Convention on Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and the World Heritage Convention (WHC), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries CCRF ; A detailed overview will be provided on the programmes and processes under the CBD, implementation mechanisms, interlinkages with other conventions, stakeholder engagement-especially that of Youth and indigenous communities, under the conventions.
